A highly professional, adaptable and dynamic practitioner, Richard has acquired extensive experience of Health and Safety Management in diverse, challenging and high risk work environments.
Richard began his career managing materials handling and heavy plant contracts in the steel industry, a role which incorporated hands-on Health & Safety responsibilities. Having developed interest, passion and demonstrable aptitude in Health & Safety Management, Richard took a voluntary role as a Health & Safety Assistant in the food industry to enable development of his skills via full-time, practical involvement. Richard moved to a Health & Safety management position for a civil engineering company operating in the rail, waterways, construction and utilities industries and then to a cement manufacturing plant. As Richard’s competence developed he took a Group Health and Safety Manager position with responsibilities for a group of companies with a diverse portfolio of activities, including industrial process plant construction and installation, waste management and manufacturing.
Richard is an enthusiastic, instinctive communicator who can influence and elicit commitment from all levels of a workforce and illustrate the individual and collective benefits that can be experienced by embracing positive Health & Safety culture. Furthermore, Richard possesses a true sense of care for the health, safety and welfare of everyone with which he works and constantly strives to assist in eliminating harm from the workplace. These key attributes and values made joining Lattitude Safety a natural progression, where he continues to gain enormous satisfaction from working closely and pro-actively with all clients.
Richard holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Biology from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety Management from the University of Portsmouth and is currently a Graduate Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (GradIOSH).
