While this is invaluable, ultimately there is much more that can be done in terms of cultural maturity – it needs to be taken to the next level if we are to achieve success and that is the role of the Pay It Forward programme.

Too often safety is perceived as ‘more stop than go’, ‘more negative than positive’, ‘more reactive than proactive’. Pay It Forward promotes proactive safety – actively looking for opportunities to improve safety, eliminate unsafe acts, at-risk behaviours and unsafe conditions. It actively reduces the base of the Accident Pyramid, contributing positively to improving safety performance. Besides eliminating unsafe acts and conditions, improvements are made through individuals proactively sharing learning and experience for the benefit of their colleagues.

Pay It Forward Safety is an exciting, innovative and rewarding programme that continues to move safety forward on the journey to safety excellence. The workshops are interactive and practical and are suitable for large as well as small groups. While we have referred to Safety here, Pay It Forward is very clearly about safety, health and well-being and relevant outside work as well as in the workplace.
